Chambers Recognizes Dechert’s Nitya Kumar Goyal as Future Leader for Diversity & Inclusion

Dechert LLP partner Nitya Kumar Goyal has been honored by Chambers as its “Diversity & Inclusion: Future Leader” in the Chambers Diversity & Inclusion Awards for North America 2022.
Ms. Kumar Goyal, a global finance partner in Dechert’s commercial real estate finance team, has worked methodically to make Dechert a more diverse and inclusive workplace. While still an associate, she used her membership of the firm’s Philadelphia Hiring Committee and her commitment to the firm’s Philadelphia Diverse Associates Group to increase recruitment of lawyers from historically underrepresented backgrounds in Dechert’s Philadelphia office. She also co-founded an ‘office hours’ mentoring scheme during the pandemic and is an active member of the Asian American affinity group. Widely seen as a culture changer, Ms. Kumar Goyal was elevated to the firm’s partnership in January 2022.
Chambers also recognized Angela Curry, Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Bentley Systems, a Dechert client, as “Diversity & Inclusion: Lawyer of the Year” for in-house lawyers. Chambers praised Ms. Curry for championing a holistic approach to D&I, which has included introducing rigorous D&I training, auditing policies for inclusive language, expanding the range of healthcare options, and reviewing professional and internship programs.
In other categories, Dechert’s Sozi Pedro Tulante, former Philadelphia City Solicitor and now a trials and investigations partner in the firm’s Philadelphia office, was recognized as a finalist for “Diversity & Inclusion: Lawyer of the Year” for private practice lawyers, while Dechert itself was named a finalist for “Outstanding Firm for Diversity & Inclusion.”
