How US Managers Can Navigate a Post-AIFMD Market
July 23, 2014
In their recent article in FundFire, Gus Black and Rachel Fenwick discuss how U.S. managers can navigate a post-AIFMD market. U.S. asset managers are turning their attention full-force to capital raising in Europe since the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) became effective on July 22. But managers that have not registered for a marketing ’passport’ can still participate in the European market. Compliance with AIFMD may not be for everyone, and alternative firms will need to carefully weigh their options for responding to the directive, which European regulators created in an attempt to curb alternative investment risks. In some cases, firms may opt to bypass AIFMD for other measures.
