OCC Issues Policy Statement Permitting FinTech Companies to Obtain a National Bank Charter

The OCC, on July 31, 2018, issued a Policy Statement that opens the door for FinTech companies to obtain a National Bank Charter. The OCC supplemented its Licensing Manual to set forth the standards governing FinTech charter applications. The OCC’s actions pave the way for FinTech companies, especially market place lenders and technology companies in the digital asset space, to explore whether a National Bank Charter fits within their business model.
