Euromoney Recognizes Dechert as Best International Firm for Diversity

Global law firm Dechert LLP has been named “Best International Firm for Diversity” by Euromoney and Legal Media Group in the Americas Women in Business Law Awards 2021. The awards recognize outstanding women lawyers and the firms that set the standard for women-friendly work practices.

The firm was chosen for its “Building Understanding” employee program, an ongoing strategic initiative designed to address the issues underlying the Black Lives Matter movement and deepen our understanding of racism, anti-racist practices and ally-ship.

Dechert publicly condemned the tragic and unconscionable murder of George Floyd and countless others. Shortly after, it rolled out initiatives including virtual forums for black employees and a Diversity and Inclusion Toolkit made available on the firm’s intranet. The firm sponsored a town hall and speaker series to address racism and social justice and explore ways to deal with those issues from a mental health perspective.

Dechert also became one of the first law firms to recognize Juneteenth, the anniversary of the liberation of the last U.S. slaves in a Confederate state.

The “Building Understanding” program was earlier named an “Innovation in Diversity” by Profiles in Diversity Journal.

Several Dechert partners were recognized in other categories of the Euromoney awards. Laura Swihart (Structured Finance) and Kimberly Branscome (Product Liability) were named as finalists for “Lawyer of the Year” in their respective practice areas, while Angela Liu was a finalist for “Rising Star in Litigation.”

Dechert itself was a finalist in the “Pro Bono – International Firm” category for the firm’s pro bono efforts defending women’s reproductive rights. The firm was also shortlisted in a regional category for the North Eastern United States.

Winners in all categories of Euromoney’s Women in Business Law Awards were announced on September 29.
