KIND Ireland Project

Dechert’s Dublin office, played a central role in shaping and developing participation in the KIND Ireland project – a collaboration of the Irish Refugee Council and the Immigrant Council of Ireland – which assists teenage refugees from Afghanistan and Somalia who have arrived in Ireland alone to apply for family reunification and bring their families to join them in Ireland.

  • Dechert's international teams support refugees in response to global crises. Lawyers advise Ukrainian refugees on status applications and provide legal advice in Dublin, Brussels and the U.S. In Paris, lawyers assist Afghan nationals with family reunification and in Hong Kong the firm partners with UNHCR to help refugees obtain work permits. We also support refugees based in Hong Kong with applications to resettle in Canada through our work with RUN HK.

  • Dechert has a robust practice advocating for human trafficking victims, helping them obtain immigration relief and compensation from traffickers. The firm has focused on supporting domestic servants trafficked by diplomats in the U.S., playing a key role in a case where the court ruled that "residual immunity" did not extend to the treatment of domestic workers. Lawyers also assisted victims outside the diplomatic context, securing a T-Visa for a labor-trafficked Zambian girl and vacated over 90 prostitution convictions for a sex-trafficked woman in New York.
